2017 State Golf Day Recap
by Kyle Merritt, Superintendent, Eaton Country Club

On April 12th, the RMGCSA participated in the second annual Golf Alliance Day at the State Capital.  The event is put on by the Allied Golf Associations of Colorado, which consists of the CGA, CWGA, Colorado PGA, CMAA, and the RMGCSA.  The event grew significantly in numbers from the first year, many more Senators and Representatives in attendance this year.

With more than 20 legislators attending the event is a great opportunity for the Alliance to showcase the many benefits the game of golf provides.  Some of the topics that were discussed were the economic impact, philanthropic efforts, and the environmental stewardship the golf industry promotes.

The RMGCSA’s main objective this year was to educate legislators of the steps we take as superintendents to protect the environment and our resources.  The main topic of concern again this year was water usage and conservation.  The legislators were very interested in the tools we use to conserve water and were very impressed with the steps we continue to take to improve water savings.

These conversations with legislators will pay dividend in future years when water regulations become an increasing topic of conversation at the Capital.  Education prior to regulation is crucial to ensure sound water policy in the future.  Next year’s event will be held the week following the Masters again.  If you have any interest in helping coordinate or in participating please contact the RMGCSA.
